IDOL BEAT: Insights into Ruben Studdard: What’s next?

December 07, 2007 By Rhonda Cloutier

RUUUUUBEN! That is how Ryan Seacrest introduced him on the finale of American Idol this season. I had an incredible opportunity Dec. 4 to do a telephone interview with Ruben Studdard, winner of American Idol Season 2.

He is very pleasant, funny and easy to talk to.

Q: I saw you perform for the first time on the finale with Jordin Sparks. The duet you sang, 'You’re All I Need To Get By,’ was one of the best performances that night. What was your response when Jordin Sparks asked you to sing with her on the finale?

RUBEN: Thank you. The show producers, Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick, asked me to sing with Jordin. They are like extended family to me; they asked and I was very happy to sing with her. She is a great singer.

Q: It was a beautiful song. Will you record it together or another duet with her?

RUBEN: A lot of people have asked that and have told me they liked it. I would like to sing with her, maybe on her next album.

Q: What do you see in the future for ‘American Idol’?

RUBEN: I think it is on its way to becoming known as the biggest music show of all time. It should go into the Hall of Fame for Music. We didn’t have the celebrities on the show when I was on, now it has become so huge.

Q: Do you think it will stay the #1 rated show?

RUBEN: Oh, definitely.
